ARE HOSPICE E-PRESCRIBING REGULATION CHANGES COMING TO YOUR STATE?

Why is it that something as archaic as faxing prescriptions still seems to dominate the world of hospice?

It’s as if hospice is technologically 10 years behind the rest of society. There is a better way.

And it’s name is E-Prescribing.

E-Prescribing replaces the need for faxing or calling in prescription orders to a pharmacy. In other words, a physician can use his or her smart phone to send prescriptions to the pharmacy.

Not only is e-prescribing more efficient and organized than faxing; it is also safer. In fact there are many states that are implementing laws that require e-prescribing. Here is a list of states to keep an eye on in order by relevance:

Minnesota Mandates e-Prescribing for all medications Jan 1, 2011

One of the main reasons why hospices continue faxing prescriptions rather than e-prescribing is cost. E-Prescribing can be expensive and as a hospice, you might simply not be able to afford an e-prescribing solution. If you’re excuse is that you can’t afford e-prescribing, we here at PDCRx, hear you loud and clear.
